What you should never do with a failed device
- Do not power on a water-damaged laptop — the current makes corrosion spread on the motherboard.
- Do not reinstall macOS / Windows to fix it: you overwrite the data still present.
- Do not run chkdsk / Repair Disk on a failing drive: these tools write and can worsen the loss.
- Do not restore over the top with Time Machine or a backup before recovering what exists.
- Do not clone the drive yourself if it makes noise or is not detected reliably.
- Keep your FileVault / BitLocker recovery key: without it, access to encrypted data is not guaranteed.
What the laboratory actually does
Drive extraction & imaging
We remove the drive (SATA or NVMe), then work from an image made on PC-3000 to limit handling of the original media.
Micro-soldering repair (water / drop)
Spilled coffee, water, a drop: we repair the power circuits and the board to make the data accessible again.
Soldered Apple SSD (T2 and Apple Silicon M1–M4)
On these Macs, the memory is soldered and tied to the Secure Enclave. To recover the data, the original motherboard must be repaired so that its processor can decrypt it. If the processor is destroyed, the data is permanently lost.
FileVault / BitLocker
We access the volume with your password or your recovery key. Keep that key safe: without it, access is not guaranteed.
APFS / NTFS / HFS+ reconstruction
We rebuild the file system after a format, a failed update or corruption, and restore the directory tree.
Recovery after a failed clone / reinstall
We recover overwritten partition tables and files by signature analysis when the OS has been reinstalled over them.

Frequently asked questions
My recent MacBook (soldered memory) won't start — is it recoverable?
Often yes, if the processor is intact: we repair the original motherboard so it decrypts the memory, then we copy the data. If the processor is destroyed, the data is permanently lost.
I have a FileVault / BitLocker volume but no longer the password — can it be opened?
The safest is to have your recovery key. Without it, it's not guaranteed, but sometimes possible depending on the version and configuration (known flaws on some versions of Windows 11, factory keys that match in certain cases). The diagnosis clarifies the chances.
I spilled liquid on my laptop — what should I do?
Switch it off, do not recharge it, bring it in quickly. We treat the corrosion and repair the board if needed.
